The Shopgate evolution
The story of Shopgate goes all the way back to 2009. The idea: Mobile Commerce — one year after the launch of the Apple App Store. It was the start of a success story that continues to this day.
In the 2010s, digitalization continued to advance and picked up speed. Retailers increasingly bet on their own mobile apps and solutions. That also brought a new challenge for Shopgate, and we quickly decided to shift to building individual apps. In 2015, the Austin, Texas office was founded, which still serves US customers today.
In 2018 we recognized that retailers wanted even more flexibility than an off-the-shelf app can deliver. So we began integrating additional features, customizations and interfaces. Over time, this became a powerful and flexible platform that continues to delight customers to this day.
In 2020 we decided to create a solution that addresses retail's current challenges. A flexible SaaS solution should reflect retailers' needs and especially the demands of brick-and-mortar retail, tearing down the barriers between off- and online.
It was the birth of the Order Management Solution ("Omnichannel Suite"), which also includes our first-class Mobile Shopping Apps that have been successful for years and form the core of Shopgate.
